Peoples Bank & Trust Company of Hazard was chartered in 1923 and has operated continuously in Perry County since its inception. As the oldest and most firmly established bank in the region, we’ve proudly served generations of families and businesses with a steadfast commitment to local values, sound financial practices, and trusted relationships.

Originally established as First State Bank in Vicco, Kentucky, the institution moved to its current home at 524 Main Street in December 1928 and adopted the name Peoples Bank & Trust Company. For more than 90 years, our main office has remained a fixture in downtown Hazard. Over the decades, we have expanded our presence with additional branch locations and ATMs throughout Perry County. We are also growing into other cities, with an LPO office now located in Richmond Kentucky, a secondary mortgage program now operating across 24 states, and plans underway to open a full-service branch in Irvine, Kentucky. We’ve also embraced digital banking, making our services easily accessible through online and mobile platforms.

With an initial capitalization of $15,000 in 1923, the bank has grown to manage average assets exceeding $325 million today. Our sustained and continued growth is a reflection of the deep-rooted trust our clients place in us, the dedication of our leadership and staff, and the resilience of the communities we serve.

In 2025, we introduced a refreshed name and brand identity - PBT Bancorp - to better reflect both who we are and where we’re headed. While our name has evolved, our mission remains unchanged: to serve the financial needs of Perry County and beyond with integrity, personalized service, and a commitment to progress.
